Jess’ Positive Hypnobirthing Story: From Anxious Mum-to-Be to a Calm, Quick Birth in the Front Seat of the Car

“As Kate will confirm, I was one of the most anxious expecting mums to be and without the guidance, tips, tricks & support of hypnobirthing I would not have had a smooth, quick, exciting story to share with everyone.”

This positive hypnobirthing birth story comes from Jess, who joined my Hypnobirthing Australia™ group course here on the Gold Coast. Jess will happily tell you she was one of the most anxious mums-to-be, yet she birthed her beautiful boy Onyx so calmly and so quickly that he arrived in the front seat of the car! Funnily enough, it was the last birth story I shared on Instagram, a beautiful accidental home birth, that inspired Jess to finally write down her own.

And I promise, my mums don’t usually birth in driveways! Almost all of them make it to their chosen birth place, but when a baby decides to arrive in a hurry, stories like Jess’ show just what calm, confidence and preparation can do. If you’re carrying some birth anxiety of your own, this one’s for you.

Jess’ Birth Story, In Her Own Words

When people ask me why did I get in the front seat of the car on the way to the hospital my answer is “The last thing I thought was I’d be giving birth in the driveway on my own”.

Sunday 18th January at 8.30pm. I called my mum laughing, thinking I had just wet myself, yet it didn’t stop. I called my midwife who gave me the instructions, and since nothing was progressing and it was my first baby, I was just to monitor things.

Fast forward 10.45pm I call my mum who lived an hour away to get in the car as I didn’t think I would make the morning. I called the midwife who reassured me it was going to take longer.

Mum arrived 11.45pm, forcing me into the car after debating for several mins, as the midwife on the phone was confident I would last till the morning.

First speed bump in the driveway his head was out as mum ran to get a towel she came back to her grandson in my arms!

Not only did I have him in the front seat of her car, but she also now shares her birthday with the newest family member, Onyx.

The tips and tricks that got me through labouring at home were doing cat and cow, holding onto the stair railing and bending over, straddling a chair, rocking back and forth draped over my exercise ball with my meditation music playing. And the most important one of all was my hypnobirthing breathing. Breathe, breathe, breathe! That’s what got me through.

As Kate will confirm, I was one of the most anxious expecting mums to be, and without the guidance, tips, tricks and support of hypnobirthing I would not have had a smooth, quick, exciting story to share with everyone.

Here’s what my mums say

I was recommended this course by my best friend & I can not recommend more highly!
I am on a solo journey into parenthood with high anxiety levels even prior to heading down this path. I walked out even after 1 class feeling a less fearful, more confident & tools to know that you don’t need to be scared of the “labour process”.
Kate went above & beyond & was super supportive even outside the class times scheduled.
