Monica’s Hypnobirth: Breech Turn, Induction & Strength

Birth Story by Monica, Positively Hypnobirthing Mum
“I truly believe the education and mindset from hypnobirthing helped us stay calm, grounded and focused on our birth preferences. It gave us the confidence to pause, ask questions and advocate for what we felt was best.”

Paul and I went into our birth journey set on doing everything we could to try for a vaginal birth in the first instance. When we found out Finn was in a frank breech position from 28weeks, we committed to trying all the recommended techniques to turn him such as Spinning Babies, the Miles Circuit and osteopathy. Despite our efforts, nothing worked until we decided to go ahead with an ECV. Thankfully, it was successful and uneventful, and the doctors who performed it were absolutely phenomenal. That experience alone made us feel so much more confident and reassured moving forward that we may still have a vaginal birth.

Towards the end of pregnancy, things became more complex as I developed preeclampsia, high blood pressure and gestational diabetes. We were advised to deliver earlier at 37 weeks, and I felt quite hesitant about both the early delivery and induction. However, with the knowledge and confidence we had gained, we took the time to ask questions and understand our options. Luckily upon examination, my cervix was already favourable and softened so we were able to begin with a manual break of membranes.

After my membranes were broken, I was asked to leave the birth suite (which we were comfortably setup in) and return to the maternity assessment centre after declining an oxytocin injection ‘to hurry things along’. I felt strongly that it would have overstimulated my contractions and potentially cause Finn to arrive too quickly. This was one of the more challenging parts of the experience, but it really reinforced how important it is to feel informed and confident in your decisions.

Labour progressed very quickly from there on its own, and despite some complications including haemorrhaging and blood loss, Finn arrived safely within 7 hours.

There were definitely some challenges during the birth, particularly with hospital protocols and staffing, it was an incredibly busy night with around 18 births in a short period. While certain interventions were suggested, I truly believe the education and mindset from hypnobirthing helped us stay calm, grounded and focused on our birth preferences. It gave us the confidence to pause, ask questions and advocate for what we felt was best for both myself and Finn.

In the end, Finn was minimally exposed and although I did feel the impact of some of the decisions made during labour, I came away feeling incredibly proud of how we navigated the experience and so grateful for the tools we had.

Finn was born on 08/03/26, weighing 3.08kg and measuring 48cm and we are completely smitten with him. We’re now settling into our new routine with this perfect little man (and yes… those cries are something else!).

I want to say how incredibly thankful we are for all your support and everything we learnt in your class. The information around turning baby in late pregnancy was especially valuable, as that was something I felt really anxious about. Having that knowledge gave me so much reassurance and confidence leading into birth.

What This Amazing Mama Had To Say

“What surprised me most was how much I didn’t know until I started learning from Kate, my partner felt the same. She helped me understand my options, my body and my choices in a way that made me feel in control, not overwhelmed. I never expected to feel excited about giving birth, but that’s exactly where I ended up. I highly recommend reaching out to Kate if you’re feeling anxious, uncertain, or simply want to feel more confident heading into birth. She has completely changed how I view my own strength, and I’m so grateful for everything she’s helped us achieve.”
